Lady Rebels And Rams Battle On Wednesday In Undefeated MW Contest

LADY REBELS AND RAMS BATTLE ON WEDNESDAY IN UNDEFEATED MW CONTEST

UNLV and Colorado State, both 3-0 in MW play, will tip-off on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. PT at Cox Pavilion

 

 The UNLV Lady Rebels are back in Las Vegas to continue Mountain West play and will host Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Both squads head into the contest with a 3-0 league record. The Scarlet & Gray are looking for their fifth win in a row and their eighth straight win against the Rams.

ABOUT COLORADO STATE: UNLV is 27-32 all-time against Colorado State, although the Lady Rebels have won the last seven meetings, including all three meetings last season. The Scarlet & Gray and Rams last met in the 2024 Mountain West Semifinals game with UNLV collecting the victory to head into the championship game. In the La Rocque era, the Lady Rebels are 8-1 against Colorado State. The Rams head into Wednesday’s contest on a three-game win streak, an overall record of 12-4 and a 3-0 MW record. CSU is currently led by sisters Emma and Hannah Ronsiek. Emma is currently averaging 18.2 points per game, and Hannah is averaging 10.1 points per game and leads the squad in rebounds with 6.3 rebounds per game.

BROADCAST INFO: The game will air live locally on the Silver State Sports and Entertainment Network (KVVU 5.2, Cox 125) and stream online on the Mountain West Network (theMW.com/watch). Play-by-play announcer Wyatt Tomchek and color analyst Kevaney Martin have the call.

SQUAD LEADERS: UNLV currently has four players scoring in double-figures and are led by Amarachi Kimpson with 14.1 points per game. Kiara Jackson is the second leading scorer who is averaging 12.9 points per game and leads the Lady Rebels in assists with 4.9 per game and field goals made with 5.1 per game. Alyssa Brown leads the squad in rebounds, bringing down 6.9 per game. Meadow Roland is second for the Lady Rebels in rebounds with 6.3 per game.

NON-CONFERENCE WRAP: The Lady Rebels played the 23rd toughest non-conference schedule in the nation finishing with a solid 8-4 performance. UNLV collected two double-digit wins over Power Conference teams with 19-point wins over both UCF (Big 12) and DePaul (Big East). The Scarlet & Gray played opponents from nine different conferences in their non-conference slate.

LAST TIME ON THE COURT: After trailing by seven points heading into the fourth quarter, the UNLV women’s basketball overcame the deficit and secured a 61-57 Mountain West victory over Boise State on Saturday evening at ExtraMile Arena. The Scarlet & Gray are 3-0 in league play for the third consecutive season and are currently on a 20-game MW road game win streak. UNLV handed Boise State its first home loss of the season. Kiara Jackson led the Lady Rebels with 18 points, four assists and was tied second on the squad in rebounds with seven. Jackson scored 10 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to help propel UNLV to the victory. Jackson shot 7-for-17 from the field and did not miss any of her free throws (4-for-4). Amarachi Kimpsoon was the second leading scorer, putting up 15 points respectively. Alyssa Brown led the squad in rebounds bringing down nine boards.

THREE-PEAT LAST SEASON: The Lady Rebels have continued to bring the heat last season, which culminated with a third consecutive Mountain West Regular Season and Tournament Titles. UNLV became the first program in MW history to claim both titles in three straight seasons. The Scarlet & Gray earned its third automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, a first in both program and league history. The Lady Rebels finished the season only one of two squads to have two (South Carolina) straight seasons with 30 wins. UNLV earned its highest ranking in both the AP and Coaches Poll coming in at No. 20 and No. 19. The Lady Rebels appeared in the Top-25 eight times this season and came into the season receiving votes for the first time in 19 years. UNLV claimed the MW’s Player of the Year in Desi-Rae Young (All-MW Team and All-Defensive Team), and Sixth and Freshman of the Year with Amarachi Kimspon (All-MW Team honorable mention and All-Freshman MW Team). Kiara Jackson earned All-MW team accolades and Alyssa Brown was named MW Tournament MVP.

WHAT UP SQUAD: The Lady Rebels return 10 of the 14 players from its 2024 championship squad, including two starters and Mountain West Sixth Player and Freshman of the Year Amarachi Kimpson. UNLV added two freshmen guards Teagan Colvin and Elli Guiney, and junior transfer Aaliyah Alexander from Eastern Washington.

UP NEXT: The Lady Rebels will be back on the road for their next Mountain West game at New Mexico on Sunday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT/2 p.m. PT and will be on CBS Sports Network.
