KIMPSON NAMED SEASON FINALE MW FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Kimpson had 14 points and a career-high seven assists against Utah State
In the final Mountain West weekly accolades, UNLV’s Amarachi Kimpson has been named MW Freshman of the Week, the league announced today. Kimpson and the Lady Rebels rounded out the regular season with a 104-44 victory on the road over Utah State on Tuesday, March 5.
The freshman guard was tied as the second leading scorer for the Lady Rebels over the Aggies with 14 points by shooting 6-for-8 from the field and 2-for-4 from the three-point line. Kimpson led the Lady Rebels who had a combined 24 assists, with a career-high seven against Utah State. She also tied her career-high in steals with three, which led UNLV on the night. The Little Elm native had four points off fast breaks, including in the third quarter, Kimpson poked out the ball and scooped it up from the Aggies’ player and went in for the layup. Later on, after Kimpson received a pass from Erica Collins’ steal, she went coast-to-coast with Alyssa Durazo-Frescas and after a back-and-forth pass, Kiimpson threw it up for the layup to hit the 100-point mark for the second straight game.
This is the third weekly nod for Kimpson and the ninth for the Lady Rebels this season.
UNLV will have a first-round bye in the MW Tournament and will face No. 8 Air Force or No. 9 Fresno State on Monday, March 11 at 12 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
