Fogerty marked his return to Las Vegas by paying homage to military veterans. To kick off his shows, he invited Six-String Soldiers, a four-member ensemble of The United States Army Field Band, to open and perform alongside him. The quartet will also join the Friday, September 16 performance of “John Fogerty – Fortunate Son in Concert” to commemorate National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which honors those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.
“Six-String Soldiers perform regularly at veterans’ association gatherings and provide a positive outlook,” said Fogerty. “I am honored and excited to have Six-String Soldiers opening my show, ‘Fortunate Son’ at The Venetian Las Vegas.”
On Thursday, September 15, Fogerty, along with Six-String Soldiers, visited the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System in North Las Vegas, where they met with and performed for the hospital’s resident veterans. In addition to delivering his signature songs, he and the group also performed an emotional rendition of “God Bless America.” Fogerty, who was drafted and served in Vietnam, was presented a scroll of the poem “To the Vietnam Veteran.”
“Having served in the military myself, I feel it is important that we bring awareness to ensure that we take care of the condition of our veterans,” said Fogerty. “It is a cause that is very dear to my heart.”
With a career spanning more than 50 years, Fogerty is hailed as one of the most influential musicians in rock history. Fogerty wrote, sang and produced numerous classic hits including “Born on the Bayou,” “Green River,” “Proud Mary,” and “Bad Moon Rising,” which led him to be named one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists (No. 40), 100 Greatest Songwriters (No. 40) and 100 Greatest Singers (No. 72) by Rolling Stone Magazine. Earning induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, he now adds author to his long list of accomplishments with his memoir “Fortunate Son: My Life, My Music” released last fall. The autobiographical account takes readers through the highs and lows of Fogerty’s life and musical career as a member of Creedence Clearwater Revival and as a solo artist.
“John Fogerty – Fortunate Son in Concert,” produced by Julie Fogerty and directed by Ken Ehrlich and Raj Kapoor, in association with AEG Live, runs through October 1, 2016. Tickets start at $59.50 (plus applicable fees) and are on sale at any box office at The Venetian or The Palazzo, online at www.venetian.com/JohnFogerty or by calling (702) 414-9000 or (866) 641-7469.
