Local artist, Robert Marlon Teams Up with JDRF Youth Ambassadors to Create an
Original Work of Art to be Auctioned at
JDRF’s 2012 Hope Gala: Art of the Cure
The Robert Marlon Studio has become an active participant in the Nevada Chapter of JDRF. In the first coordination meeting titled the “Meeting of the Minds,” a group of fifteen JDRF Youth Ambassadors and their parents met with artist Rob Marlon, and his director of operations, Lori Skophammer, to discuss combined efforts to create an original piece of art titled Making Waves. The completed piece will be auctioned off at JDRF’s Hope Gala…The Art of the Cure on Friday, May 11, 2012. Under the artist’s direction, the Youth Ambassadors will be a part of several sessions to assist in applying layers of paint to the art to help it come to life. The collaborative piece which is a mixed media original painting on canvas, measuring 33” x 55”, will be a featured auction item that will be sure to make waves.
In addition to the actual creative application, the kids will also be a part of the story telling process by taking photos and video to capture the action behind the scenes from start to finish. This will be displayed adjacent to the finished piece of art at the event.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. It occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, called beta cells. While its causes are not yet entirely understood, scientists believe that both genetic factors and environmental triggers are involved. Its onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D, and—at present—nothing you can do to get rid of it.
The Gala, which begins at 6 p.m., will feature a cocktail reception, dinner, exceptional silent and live auctions, and live entertainment featuring Gala Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Clint Holmes. Auction packages include exclusive vacation packages, stunning jewelry, dining experiences, an incredible selection of art, fashion, sports memorabilia, and more.
Table prices range from $3,500 to $25,000 and individual tickets are $350 each. For more information on event details; sponsorship, donation and ticket options; an auction preview; advance registration and volunteer sign-up forms, please visit www.jdrflv.org or contact the JDRF office at 702.732.4795.
About JDRF
JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal.
Since its founding in 1970, JDRF has awarded more than $1.6 billion to diabetes research. Past JDRF efforts have helped to significantly advance the care of people with this disease, and have expanded the critical scientific understanding of T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.

About The Robert Marlon Studio
Robert Marlon’s distinctive style emerges with an avant-garde method of integrating various art forms including design, sculpting, photography and painting. His ambitious thought process is derived from experimentation, rule breaking and departure from the norm. Rob’s creative process hinges on a refined ability to examine ordinary objects in the form of a “close reading” or thorough inquiry. He utilizes sculpture and light design as a platform for creating photographic images, in desired color palettes and textures, to incorporate into the digital world.
When the artist began to interpolate photography into draw elements, the dissolution of objects took on an inner energy, provoking movement and meaning. The process is five-fold. He designs and builds sculptures which are captured photographically. Next, the artist digitally sculpts these images, creating the desired effects on canvas and other media. The resultant image is then meticulously painted for the final embellishments. Materials of choice encompass a wide range of media including a variety of paints, tints, pigmented inks, dyes and gels. Yielding an eclectic blend of abstract art, The Robert Marlon Collection has captured the attention of art lovers and critics, alike.
The Uniquely Contemporary Style of Robert Marlon Combined with the Creative Touches of Youth are Sure to Produce a Stunning Result. The artist’s unique creative process is outlined on his website. Please visit www.robertmarlon.com for more information.
