The UNLV baseball team defeated Grand Canyon 4-3 during a Tuesday non-conference matinee at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
The Scarlet & Gray improved to 10-16, while the Lopes dropped to 17-11.
REBEL OF THE GAME: Alex Pimentel was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a homer and two runs scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Pimentel put the first run of the day on the board with his first career home run as a Rebel. The Antelopes answered back in the top of the sixth frame with an RBI single from Zach Yorke. However, the Rebels scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning with a pair of back-to-back RBI singles, the latter of which included another run coming in on a throwing error. The Lopes drew to within one by plating two runs on four hits and an error in the top of the eighth for their final scoring of the day.
Nolan George (1-0) secured his first win of the season for UNLV after allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
Jack Sellinger (S,3) earned his third save of the season after throwing 2.0 innings and allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts.
R.J. Elmore (0-1) was saddled with the loss for Grand Canyon. He allowed three runs on three hits in two innings of relief.
NOTES AND NEWS
– Pimentel currently holds a six-game hitting streak with 12 total hits.
UP NEXT: UNLV will take on UNR (12-15, 3-8 MW) in a three-game Mountain West home series set to begin Thursday evening at 6:05 p.m. The games against UNR will count toward the Silver State Series, presented by America First Credit Union.
