HUSTLIN’ REBELS HIT THE ROAD FOR NEXT FIVE GAMES

The UNLV baseball team (5-6, 1-2 MW) will hit the road for the next five games, beginning with a trip to Oklahoma for a two-game, midweek series against the Sooners (6-5) set for Tuesday with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. (PT). The Hustlin’ Rebels will conclude the series Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. (PT), before heading over to the Golden State for a three-game, nonconference series against Cal Poly (3-7) scheduled to begin Friday evening at 6 p.m.
The Sooners come into the midweek affair after a 2-1 weekend at the Frisco Classic where they defeated Cal, 9-5, during the first game of the tournament, followed by a dominating performance against Mississippi State, 15-9, Saturday afternoon. Ohio State got the better of Oklahoma, defeating them by a score of 12-9 Sunday afternoon to conclude the Frisco Classic.
UNLV enters the midweek contest after opening up Mountain West play with a three-game series against the Aztecs, where the Rebels dropped two of three (5-8, 8-28, 9-8).
Cal Poly comes into this weekend’s three-game series after falling to no. 18 Oregon State, 3-1, during a four-game, nonconference series played over the weekend (4-5, 2-7, 4-2, 1-3). The Mustangs will play a single-game, home affair against Xavier Tuesday evening with first pitch slated for 6 p.m.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
– The Scarlet & Gray and Oklahoma have squared off a total of 27 times with the first-ever meeting taking place in 1974. The Sooners lead the all-time series 15-12. This will be the first time both teams will square off in the 21st century as the last time they met was in 1990 at the UNLV/Coors Classic where the Hustlin’ Rebels won both games (6-2, 12-4).
– Cal Poly and UNLV have met nine times since 2007 with the Mustangs holding the advantage in the all-time series 7-2. However, the Hustlin’ Rebels took the three-game series played last season, 2-1, by scores of 7-6 (10 innings), 0-4 and 6-1.

UNLV will continue to play on the road with a trip to Arkansas for a two-game, midweek series set for Tuesday, March 14 at 4 p.m. (PT) and Wednesday, March 15 at 1 p.m. (PT).

– Austin Kryszczuk is currently on a seven-game hitting streak.
– Jacob Sharp has a five-game hitting streak with 11 total hits during that span.

– Reese Lueck received the first weekly award for the Rebels, being named the Freshman of the Week following UNLV’s perfect opening weekend February 20.

– UNLV currently sits third in the conference with an overall record of 5-6, 1-2 MW.
– The Hustlin’ Rebels currently rank second in the conference and 37th in the nation with a batting average at .312.
– The Scarlet & Gray also rank second in the conference in runs scored (103), hits (127), doubles (24), triples (4) and in RBIs (87).
– Sharp leads the MW in slugging percentage (.806), sits third in the MW and 34th in the nation in batting average (.472), ranks fifth in the conference in hits (17) and is third for HBP with 4.
