The UNLV men’s basketball program has received a signed commitment from Jace Whiting to join the Runnin’ Rebels for the 2024-25 season, head coach Kevin Kruger announced Wednesday.
Originally from Burley, Idaho, the 6-foot-3-inch, 190-pound guard will transfer to UNLV from Boise State, where he played as a freshman and sophomore in 2022-23 and 2023-24, respectively.
“We couldn’t be more excited for Jace to join the Runnin’ Rebel family,” Kruger said. “He is a tough, battle-tested Mountain West guard that we expect to have a tremendous impact for us on both ends of the floor. He is comfortable playing on and off the ball and his versatility is something that will be incredibly valuable.”
Whiting, who will be a junior at UNLV this fall, appeared in all 33 of Boise State’s games this past season, making six starts. He shot 48.2% from the field, including 50% on 3-pointers, averaging 3.3 points per game. He had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.6, playing in 16 minutes or more in 15 games, and tied his career high in scoring with 10 points in a road win at Wyoming on Feb. 24.
As a freshman, he played in 33 games and made five starts. He averaged 3.1 ppg and had 44 assists, scoring a season-high 10 points against UNLV.
Whiting attended Burley High School where he was a two-time All-Great Basin League selection and was named All-Idaho First Team his senior year after averaging 24.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He finished his career as his school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,430 points.
Whiting joins Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry, James Evans, Jaden Henley and Pape N’Diaye (pronounced: POP EN-jie) as incoming players to the Runnin’ Rebel program for the 2024-25 season.
