HEAVEN CAN WAIT ANIMAL SOCIETY INVITES THE PUBLIC TO 13th “LOSE A POUND WITH YOUR HOUND” MEMORY WALK

Event offers animal lovers the opportunity to enjoy a community event while remembering animals euthanized in Southern Nevada

Heaven Can Wait announces its 13th annual “Lose a Pound with Your Hound” Memory Walk on Sunday, October 27 at Bunker Park near Tenaya and Alexander. “Lose a Pound with Your Hound” offers fun for all ages, while bringing to mind the communities responsibility to support spay and neuter, and adoption efforts. Guests are welcome to take part in the mile-long walk that will include symbolic “collars” to represent the 24,000 animals euthanized in Clark County over the past year. While that number is staggering, it is 3,000 below the amount last year due to the spays and neuters performed by Heaven Can Wait Animal Society at its facility.

This year’s walk will have all-ages fun including paw and face painting, food, music, contests with prizes, pet photos, mobile grooming and vendors. The event begins at 9 a.m. with registration, coffee and doughnuts, goody bag distribution, the beginning of the vendor bazaar, the “Pups on Parole” group photo. “Pups on Parole” is a partnership with Heaven Can Wait and a local prison for women that gives the dogs training and shelter, while giving prisoners hope and reducing their re-offending rate.

At 10 a.m., the memorial walk begins with games along the way. At 11 a.m., paw and face painting, a dog costume contest, prizes and entertainment from Elvis tribute artist Eddie Powers.

Pets are welcome at “Lose a Pound with Your Hound,” but must be up to date on vaccinations and on a leash no longer than six feet or otherwise restrained. People are required to clean up for their pet family members.

Funds raised will benefit Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, which is a Southern Nevada nonprofit. Unlike many similar groups that keep a “reserve fund,” Heaven Can Wait pours nearly all of its funding into the support of its efforts, which include spay and neuter at is Las Vegas clinic, and no-kill adoption. Heaven Can Wait is a Southern Nevada organization and no money leaves the community. Those who participate in “Lose a Pound with Your Hound” pledge to promote responsible pet ownership.

Registration begins at $30 for individuals and drops to as low as $15 per person for groups. The cost of a “Collar for a Dollar” in memory of those lost begins at $1. For more information and to register, head to www.hcws.org or call 702.227.5555.
