UNLV Athletics announced its 2023-24 men’s basketball schedule Thursday.

 

The 30-game slate includes 12 non-conference games and 18 Mountain West matchups. Five non-conference games will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center on UNLV’s campus and two more will be held in the area at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson.

 

The Runnin’ Rebels could face up to 15 teams this season that played in the postseason in 2022-23.

 

“We have put together an extremely challenging schedule that will test us throughout the non-conference season,” head coach Kevin Kruger said. “It will have us well-prepared for another very competitive Mountain West. We can’t wait to get this season started.”

Game times, television appearances and any date changes to the MW slate will be announced as confirmed.

 

The 2023-24 Runnin’ Rebel campaign will begin with two home games at the Thomas & Mack Center. The season opener will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 8 vs. Southern. UNLV’s following contest on Saturday, Nov. 11 vs. Stetson will be a special night as the program plans to honor Legend Anderson Hunt with a jersey retirement. Hunt, who played for the Runnin’ Rebels from 1988-91, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 1990 NCAA Final Four.

 

UNLV will play its first road game of the season on Friday, Nov. 17 at Pepperdine, then travel across the country to participate in the Sunshine Slam in Daytona, Florida. The Runnin’ Rebels will face Florida State in the event on Monday, Nov. 20, then will matchup with either Colorado or Richmond on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Colorado advanced to the second round of the NIT last season.

 

The Runnin’ Rebels will return to the Thomas & Mack Center for a game against Akron on Tuesday, Nov. 28, then will complete the second leg of its home-and-home series with a road game at Dayton on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Akron finished third in the Mid-American Conference last season, going 22-11 overall and 13-5 in league play. Dayton was second in the Atlantic 10 with an overall record of 22-12 and a league mark of 12-6.

 

While the National Finals Rodeo is held at the Thomas & Mack Center, UNLV will head across town to the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada, where it will face Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Dec. 9, and Creighton on Wednesday, Dec. 13. LMU placed fourth in the WCC last season, going 19-12 overall, while Creighton was a force in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Elite Eight. The Bluejays placed third in the Big East and had an overall record of 24-13 last season (14-6 in league play).

 

For UNLV’s games at the Dollar Loan Center, current season ticket holders have the ability to request complimentary tickets until Sept. 27. Season ticket holders have already been contacted and are able to request up to the same number of paid season tickets in their account, up to a maximum of four (4) tickets.

 

On Saturday, Dec. 16, the Runnin’ Rebels will play in Phoenix, Arizona, in the Jerry Colangelo Classic, against Saint Mary’s. The Gaels tied for the WCC Championship last season, went 27-8 overall and 14-2 in league play, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s second round.

 

Non-conference play will conclude with two games at the Thomas & Mack Center against Hofstra on Thursday, Dec. 21 and Carroll College on Sunday, Dec. 31. Hofstra won the Colonial Athletic Association’s championship last season, went 25-10 overall and 16-2 in league play, and advanced to the NIT’s second round.

 

The Runnin’ Rebels are scheduled to open MW play on Saturday, Jan. 6 at San Diego State and play their first conference home game against New Mexico on Tuesday, Jan. 9. The league sent four teams to the NCAA Tournament last season, one to the NIT and one to the CBI.
