THE SEARCH FOR LAS VEGAS’ GREATEST BOSS
Nominations begin September 4th
A boss who motivates, inspires and sees the bigger picture to help their employees achieve a healthy work-life balance are sometimes the unsung heroes of the greater Las Vegas workplace. But, on National Boss Day set for October 16, 2013, it will be time to give them their due, as we kick off the search for Las Vegas’ Greatest Boss in a contest sponsored by Cookies by Design Las Vegas and other local companies looking to congratulate this city’s top leader.
People love to gripe about bad bosses, but great bosses rarely get the recognition they deserve. Now is that time.
“We wanted to help identify and celebrate the great bosses in Las Vegas,” said Jamie Sullivan, co-owner of Cookies by Design Las Vegas. “It has always been one of the busiest days of the year for our company, so we know that our community supports the men and women who rule our workforce. We want this contest to showcase great bosses who communicate a clear vision and who have a tremendous positive impact on their employees and their organizations.”
To enter, please visit the contest site at: http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e82wtdiohkvoj7o4/start to input some basic information about the person being nominated and an essay describing the qualities of the boss and how he or she has impacted lives of employees and/or the organization. Entries must include the nominee’s and the nominator’s name and contact information. There is no fee to enter the contest. Entries will close on October 4th and the winner will be notified on October 11th. Final judging will be done by a panel of leaders who understand what it means to be a great boss and manage a team for optimal performance and who are committed to excellence in leadership. The distinguished panel includes:
Scott Sibella — President and COO of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas
Jeff Kriske — creator of Kid Sounds
Renee Reuther — partner at Rice, Reuther, Sullivan & Carroll
In addition to local publicity, the winning boss will receive a lunch with a “very special “ leader in our community set for October 15th, in addition to prizes from sponsors that include Cookies by Design Las Vegas, Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, Super Cleaners, Executive Las Vegas, Ultimate Gaming and more.
Background of National Boss Day
The concept of National Boss Day began in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, then an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois, registered the holiday with the United States Chamber of Commerce. She designated October 16 as the special day because it was her father’s birthday. Haroski’s purpose was to designate a day to show appreciation for her boss and other bosses. She also hoped to improve the relationship between employees and supervisors. Four years later in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski’s registration and officially proclaimed the day. The event’s popularity is growing outside the United States and is now also observed in countries such as Australia, India and South Africa.
