Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas will welcome locals and tourists alike to celebrate Lunar New Year starting Monday, Jan. 3. This Lunar New Year, in honor of the Year of the Tiger, the iconic destination will host festive live entertainment, exquisite photo backdrops and the anticipated 11th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ ribbon cutting ceremony. Photo Opportunities and Live Entertainment
To kick off the celebration, starting Monday, Jan. 3, The Shoppes invites guests to honor the new year with extraordinary photo opportunities throughout the destination. The iconic destination welcomes the return of the renowned and dazzling Golden Dragon art installation located next to Louis Vuitton in the luxury wing. The display stands over eight feet tall and measures 34 feet long. The dragon body is covered in 5 miles of metallic stranded material and lit by 13,750 computer programmed LED lights with sparkle strobes. A continuous symbol of luck and prosperity, the magnificent Dragon installation is the perfect backdrop for fabulous photos while celebrating the Year of the Tiger. Guests will also have the opportunity to commemorate their Lunar New Year celebration with a photo at the breathtaking lantern display near Smith & Wollensky in late January.
Adding to the celebration, The Shoppes will captivate guests with festive entertainment to honor the Lunar New Year. Fan Dancer performances will delight shoppers and guests from Feb.1 through 6 with performances taking place at St. Mark’s Square at 3 p.m. and at Gazebo in the Sky Garden at 3:30 p.m. In addition, guests can observe a special Lion Blessing on Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. as new retailers in the destination receive a cultural blessing for good fortune for the year.
Chinese New Year in the Desert™
In commemoration of the Year of the Tiger, The Shoppes will host the 11th Annual city-wide Chinese New Year in the Desert™ ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 3. The coveted event will return to the premier shopping, dining and entertainment destination with a special moment featuring a lively fan dancing performance, remarkable lion blessings and more starting at noon.

Those looking to cash in their red envelope blessings are invited to explore the various luxury retailers inside Grand Canal Shoppes. Guests who show $450 worth of same day receipts will receive a Lunar New Year-inspired gift with purchase that includes a signature Grand Canal Shoppes travel gift set with red leather passport cover and luggage tag.
