Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Hosts 13th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Yesterday, Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas hosted the official 13th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert™ ribbon cutting ceremony. Marking the official beginning of the city-wide Lunar New Year celebrations, St. Mark’s Square transformed into a dazzling affair as city officials and VIPs came together to kick off the Year of The Dragon with the festive ceremony. Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony, Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman, CEO of Travel Nevada Rafael Villanueva, Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Sichan Siv, National ACE Foundation Board Chair Dr. Karen Eng, and APAICS Board Chair Susan Jin Davis, among others, were in attendance to commemorate the occasion.
Guests were captivated as the incredible event began with spectacular folk and fan dance performances, followed by welcome remarks from the city officials and VIPs. Creating remarkable moments, Nevada Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony presented Grand Canal Shoppes with a proclamation in honor of the 13th Annual Chinese New Year in the Desert and Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman presented The City of Las Vegas certificate to Chinese New Year in the Desert for its continued efforts in promoting and celebrating cultural diversity. As the event continued, Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony, Former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Sichan Siv, Las Vegas City Councilwoman Victoria Seaman, CEO of Travel Nevada Rafael Villanueva, Jamba inside the Las Vegas Airport franchise owners, Michael David and Mary Ann Ty and Entertainment and Special Events Manager at Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas Torri Ishida participated in a traditional eye dotting ritual to awaken the lions and then conducted the official cutting of the ribbon. Concluding the festivities, the lions paraded through the famed Shoppes, while the majestic dragon danced through the crowd blessing all guests for prosperity in the new year.
