22 Years of Celebrating Heart Warriors!
Children’s Heart Foundation celebrates more than two decades of strolling to support at Walk with the Heart of a Child at Craig Ranch Park on Saturday, March 29
>
– It’s time to step into action on Saturday, March 29 to honor area heart warriors at the 22nd Annual Children’s Heart Foundation’s Walk with the Heart of a Child. Celebrating more than two decades as an annual community event, Walk with the Heart of a Child aims to raise awareness and much needed funding to fight for the one in 100 (or 40,000) children in the United States who are born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) each year. These 40,000 annual cases make congenital heart defects the leading cause of illness and death in the first year of life. Aiming to raise both awareness and much needed funding to fight what can be a deadly pediatric disease, Children’s Heart Foundation invites all Las Vegans to lace up their sneakers to walk in celebration or remembrance of the young lives affected by CHD at the annual family-fun walk at Craig Ranch Regional Park (851 Lone Mountain Rd., North Las Vegas).
The morning of fun and awareness kicks off at 9 a.m. with registration, check-in, Kids Zone, vendor areas, and community partner booths. Opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. with the walk beginning shortly after, followed by closing ceremonies and fundraising awards at 11 a.m. Food trucks will be on site for walkers who need sustenance for the event. Food and drink items are not included in registration.
Online registration is available at www.chfn.org/walk. Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for active-duty military, students, children, and seniors. Heart families will receive complimentary registration for immediate family members only and the heart child will receive a special event t-shirt designating them as a heart warrior. Online registration closes at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 at midnight.
Research, education and family assistance are at the heart of Children’s Heart Foundation’s mission. In the United States, CHD is 60 times more prevalent than childhood cancer, and nearly twice as many children die each year as die from all forms of childhood cancers combined. Research, still grossly underfunded in the field of pediatric cardiology, is the greatest hope for children living with a CHD for a chance to live long, healthy lives due to medical and surgical advances and expert care. It is the hope that this annual event continues to improve the level of care provided to those impacted by CHD.
