“The world of film expands far beyond the national movies regularly shown in theaters. In addition to mainstream blockbuster hits, Galaxy Theatres strives to expose the community to carefully selected independent and prestige films that people otherwise might not see,” said Rafe Cohen. “There’s no better way to explore the movies than with a glass of wine reclining in ultimate comfort. Galaxy Green Valley Luxury+ Theatre is proud to host the Cinema Society of Las Vegas as it makes its debut in the Las Vegas community, furthering the local emerging arts culture.”
Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, The Cinema Society was founded in San Diego, CA in 1983 by Director Andrew Friedenberg with the intention to bring new life to the arts community, and has now grown to include membership in Scottsdale and West Valley, AZ and most recently Las Vegas, NV. Cinema Society of Las Vegas is the ticket to discovering carefully selected motion pictures by the top major and independent studios, as well as undiscovered non-studio gems. The Cinema Society of Las Vegas 2014 Inaugural Half Season Lineup includes:
Spinning Plates – Jan. 27 (Season Opener)
Spinning Plates is a documentary about three extraordinary restaurants and the incredible people who make them what they are. A cutting-edge restaurant named the seventh-best in the world whose chef must battle a life-threatening obstacle to pursue his passion. A 150-year-old family restaurant still standing only because of the unbreakable bond with its community. A fledgling Mexican restaurant whose owners are risking everything just to survive and provide for their young daughter. Their unforgettable stories of family, legacy, passion and survival come together to reveal how meaningful food can be, and the power it has to connect us to one another.
Marcello, Marcello – Feb. 10
Denis Rabaglia’s heartwarming romantic comedy, set on the Italian island of Amatrello in 1956, follows the fortunes of young Marcello, who, in order to win the heart of the lovely Elena (the mayor’s daughter, no less) must follow a gift-giving tradition. But what gift to give the mayor in order to date his daughter? In Italian with English Subtitles.
Award Winning Short Film Night – March 10
Shorts are wonderful, because if you hate a short, relax, it’s short. But if you love a short, you remember it forever. The Cinema Society will be showing a collection of shorts that will, we hope, stay with you for a very long time.
Touch of the Light – April 7 (Season Finale)
Taiwan’s Oscar submission from last year, Touch of the Light drama centered on the experiences of a Taiwanese visually impaired piano prodigy. In Mandarin with English Subtitles.
