WOODARD NAMED RAISING CANE’S OUTSTANDING REBEL OF THE WEEK

The senior linebacker recorded 11 tackles and an interception in a 23-20 victory at Kansas

UNLV football senior Jackson Woodard has been named the Raising Cane’s Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.

The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.

Woodard, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, led the Rebels to a thrilling 23-20 victory over Kansas, which improved their record to a perfect 3-0. He had a game-high 11 tackles, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss, and recorded his second-career interception with a 26-yard return that gave the Rebels a key field goal in the second half.

After that performance, Woodard became the first Rebel linebacker to win more than one MW weekly award in the same season since Beau Bell earned three in 2007. Additionally, UNLV was ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll for the first time in program history at No. 25 following their win over the Jayhawks.
