A Decade of Free Sunscreen, Proactive Measures and Skin Safety
In milestone year, Comprehensive Cancer Centers announces new partnerships with City of Las Vegas and City of North Las Vegas, joining Southern Nevada businesses and jurisdictions with a mission to keep Southern Nevadans safe in the sun
In year ten of skin safety community partnerships, Comprehensive Cancer Centers (Comprehensive) has added City of Las Vegas and City of North Las Vegas to its roster of local entities offering free SPF 30 sunscreen and proactive tips. To-date and across the valley, Comprehensive has provided tens of thousands of sunscreen packets/bottles to partners as well as more than 100 sunscreen kiosks conveniently positioned throughout the valley.
For the new City of Las Vegas partnership, Comprehensive will provide easy-to-use sunscreen kiosks at six community centers and/or summer camp sites including Cimarron Rose, East Las Vegas, Doolittle, Mirabelli, Stupak and Veterans Memorial. Additionally, kiosks will be installed at six pools in the city’s confines including the Baker, Doolittle, Garside, Freedom, Municipal and Pavilion Center facilities.
“The efforts of the Comprehensive Cancer Centers are to be applauded, for ensuring these lifesaving sunscreen kiosks are available throughout the valley,” said Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman. “Using sunscreen is one of the best and easiest ways to project your skin and minimize the risks of skin cancer.”
As part of the City of North Las Vegas partnership, sunscreen kiosks will be available for use at five city facilities including Silver Mesa Pool, Walker Pool, Petitti Pool, Silver Mesa Recreation Center and the Neighborhood Recreation Center. Additionally, sunscreen packets will be available for those participating in the city’s youth swimming program.
“The City of North Las Vegas is elated to join Comprehensive Cancer Centers in this important partnership to help keep our residents safe while in the sun,” said City of North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. “Our recreation centers and pools welcome hundreds of visitors each week during summer and the convenient sunscreen kiosks will make it easy for everyone to protect themselves from the sun while still having fun.”
Beyond its collaborations with the City of Las Vegas and City of North Las Vegas, Comprehensive has sunscreen partnerships with: Clark County Parks & Recreation, City of Henderson, RTC Southern Nevada, Las Vegas Aviators, UNLV Athletics, Las Vegas Lights FC, Vegas Golden Knights and Vegas Silver Knights, The PENTA Building Group, Cadence master-planned community, Downtown Summerlin, Cowabunga Canyon Summerlin and Cowabunga Bay Henderson, and SilverSummit Healthplan. Comprehensive is also the official sun safety partner for the Southern Nevada affiliate of American Cancer Society.
“Ten years in, it’s a moment to reflect on our proactive efforts and the impact, with our partners, that we’ve been able to make,” said Comprehensive’s chief executive officer, Jon Bilstein. “Our new partnerships with City of Las Vegas and City of North Las Vegas mark another major step forward in helping keep our community skin safe. Our mantra from day one of these partnerships has been to help keep locals from ever having to visit one of our clinics with a skin-related condition. And that remains true here in year ten and well beyond.”
According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 800 Nevadans will be diagnosed with melanoma of the skin in 2023 and one in five Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70. Amid rising rates of skin cancer and melanoma occurrences nationwide, awareness remains a powerful tool in mitigating the chance of a prospective skin-related diagnosis.
