OVERVIEW:

The community is invited to come out Sunday, April 19, 2025, from 11am to 4pm to celebrate local creativity at the Chalk It Down! Festival – a vibrant day of art, food, and community in the heart of 18b The Las Vegas Arts District. This free, family-friendly festival unites local artists, small businesses, and eateries for a one-of-a-kind experience. Festival-goers will stroll through the district as talented chalk artists transform sidewalks into stunning works of art in front of the neighborhood’s favorite local shops, cafés, and boutiques along Main Street and Imperial Avenue. Giving attendees the chance to admire the artistry, support local businesses, and enjoy delicious bites from nearby eateries, the Chalk It Down! Festival is the perfect way to connect, explore, and celebrate the creative spirit of Las Vegas!

THE ACTIVITIES:

Teaming up with the Chalk It Down! Festival, Market in the Alley will be hosting an expanded monthly market with 100+ local artisans, vintage curators, food purveyors, and small businesses, giving the community the opportunity to support local businesses while supporting local art.

Future Makers will program the Kids Zone, offering a myriad of activities specifically for kids.

The Horse Trailer Hideout Stage, located on Imperial Ave., will feature local musicians throughout the day for acoustic sets and chill vibes. Set next to the stage, the beer garden, activated by The Nevada Craft Brewers Association, will be pouring local beers and beverages for those 21+. Also special for the day, participating food and beverage outlets in the neighborhood will be able to serve drinks to go, for adults to enjoy popping in and out of 18b hotspots with a cold beverage in hand.

To commemorate the event, a featured chalk mural will be created by last year’s chalk art winner Cody Wombold. Sponsored by the First Friday Foundation, Wombold’s live chalk piece will be on display next to Market in the Alley on Imperial Ave.

THE ART & CONTEST:

The Chalk It Down! Festival artists will have seven hours (from 8am to 2pm) to create their art on the designated 5′ x 5′ sidewalk spots stationed in front of participating businesses. The theme for the artwork is “Unity in the Community.”  A panel of judges – including Corey Fagan, Director of First Friday Foundation; Nancy Good, Local Artist; Suce Kane, Performance & Events Manager of Meow Wolf; Brian “Paco” Alvarez, Owner of Psionic Art Works; and Mary Sabo, Arts Administrator for City of Las Vegas – will choose three winners, who will be announced via Instagram on April 20th. The third-place winner will receive $200; second place $300; and first place will take home $500. Sidewalk artist applications are accepted now through March 28, 2025. Each selected, pre-registered artist will receive a stipend for participating, as well as provided art supplies, an artist swag bag, and access to the Artists Lounge.
