CenturyLink Las Vegas Announces Partnership with Three Square
in Support of Nationwide Backpack Buddies Food Drive
Partnership and match program will raise up to $1 million to help fight hunger
CenturyLink Las Vegas will partner with local food bank, Three Square, June 1st through the 12th to help feed Southern Nevadans in need. CenturyLink will match up to $1 million from all food and monetary donations in association with Backpack Buddies, the company’s nationwide food drive program.
Food banks can purchase food at a lower cost per pound than the average person could at a store, estimated on average to equal six pounds of food per dollar. Based on this calculation, CenturyLink will donate $1 for every six pounds of food collected by the company’s employees and community members. All food and monetary donations made online, in person, and via mail during the time period will count towards the match donation.
“CenturyLink is proud to partner with Southern Nevada’s largest hunger-relief organization,” says Jeremy Ferkin, Operations VP of CenturyLink. “Our staff members are taking on the challenge to beat last year’s donation and are eager to contribute to this very important cause in our community.”
“Gifts like this are critical to our mission of providing wholesome food to hungry people in our area,” says Brian Burton, President and CEO of Three Square. “We are very thankful for community partners like CenturyLink who generously give back because they make a huge impact in the community; what would have been three meals from a $1 donation, will become six meals.”
According to 2014 statistics provided by Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger relief organization, 46.5 million people in need across the United States, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors access emergency food from a food pantry one or more times a year. That means one in seven Americans now rely on Feeding America and its nationwide network of local food banks.
