Cancer Treatment Centers of America® Provides Sun Safety Tips for Nevadans for National Skin Cancer Awareness Month

More than 400 cases of Skin Cancer in Nevada are expected in 2013 according to the American Cancer Society

As the temperatures rise in Las Vegas, more people spend time outdoors enjoying barbecues, pool parties and hiking. While it is great to spend time outside, the importance of sun-protection shouldn’t be overlooked. In honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, CTCA provides tips for Nevadans on sun safety. According to American Cancer Society, more than 400 cases of skin cancer in Nevada are expected in 2013.

“Skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the United States according to the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” said Walter Quan, Jr., MD, melanoma specialist and chief medical oncologist at CTCA’s Western Regional Medical Center. “With dozens of day clubs in the city, pools in many backyards and hiking trails along Red Rock, sun safety for Las Vegans is vital and can help residents reduce their risk of developing skin cancer.”

Dr. Quan, believes in creating a culture of safety around sun exposure and in honor of Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May, Dr. Quan and CTCA have created an infographic that features a variety of suggestions for individuals to limit their sun exposure and their risk of developing skin cancer.
