UNLV freshman guard averaged 9.5 points off the bench to help Lady Rebels go 2-0 in The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Tournament

 

 UNLV’s Amarachi Kimpson has been named Mountain West Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week, the conference announced today.

 

The 5-foot-8 freshman guard averaged 9.5 points through two games during The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Tournament hosted by San Diego to help the Lady Rebels defeat UC Santa Barbara and San Diego over the weekend.

 

Kimpson drained a season/career-high 10 points in the 68-49 victory over UC Santa Barbara to open The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Tournament. Off the bench, she shot 4-for-6 from the field, was a perfect 2-for-2 at the free throw line, dished out three assists and brought down five rebounds in the victory against the Gauchos.

 

The Little Elm native, stayed focused going into day two of The Dana on Mission Bay Thanksgiving Tournament against host San Diego. She drained nine points, was a perfect 2-for-2 at the line and had three rebounds for the Lady Rebels as they defeated the Toreros 93-56. Kimpson hit a long three, nearly two minutes after entering the game in the first quarter to put UNLV up by 15 with less than two minutes to go in the first quarter.

 

The Lady Rebels will next visit Northern Arizona on Wednesday, Nov. 29 with tip-off set for 5 p.m. PT.
