BROADWAY BOUND AND STUDIO ONE’S SUMMERLIN DANCE ACADEMY PRESENT LITTLE WOMEN
Broadway Bound and Studio One’s Summerlin Dance Academy are proud to present the theater production of Little Women at the Summerlin Library Theater February 8 – 16, 2013 for eight high-energy performances, which will include special raffle giveaways for prizes, such as four tickets to Jersey Boys.
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, the musical is centered on the four March sisters— brassy, aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth. Along with their beloved Marmee, they live in Concord, MA while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. The story takes place over the course of a few years and primarily focuses on Jo March and her desire to become a famous writer and keep her family together during times of great struggle. The girls all try to achieve their dreams and goals in life, but eventually their futures are quite different from what they initially imagined. Little Women is full of sword fights and soaring ballads, which the talented young cast brings to life.
“We are so excited to bring Las Vegas this vibrant production that showcases the remarkable talent of our community’s youth,” said Michael Vojvodich, director and instructor of the Broadway Bound Musical Theater Program, whose credits include title roles in Jesus Christ Superstar and Jekyll and Hyde, and collaborations with musical theater legends such as Jerry Herman, Susan Egan, Michael McElroy and Marvin Hamlisch.
“We have a great cast of very dedicated young performers who have been a delight to work with,” said musical director Alex Cheney, who has performed with Virginia Musical Theatre and Opryland Productions, and serves as the entertainment coordinator for Caesars Entertainment Corporation.
The Broadway Bound program at Studio One’s Summerlin Dance Academy is the first of its kind in Las Vegas not only to provide its students instruction in acting technique, singing and dancing, but also to offer youth in the community opportunities to be cast in full-scale, multi-show productions. Net proceeds from Broadway Bound shows are donated to Broadway Bound Kidz, a non-profit organization, which is committed to the enrichment, entertainment and education of young people in a theater arts and dance environment.
Performances of Little Women will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, along with 1 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at www.broadwayboundlv.com or by calling (702) 838-5131.
Little Women is a stage musical based on the book by Louisa May Alcott. It is produced through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), 421 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019.
