Those looking for an authentic taste of The Big Island can find the full experience of a Hawaii-worthy celebration at Bel-Aire Backyard’s “Sunset Luau.” Starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 26, the event will see the backyard oasis transformed into a slice of paradise, complete with island sounds, authentic cuisine, and traditional entertainment. The live music for the evening will be provided by DJ A.D., a music veteran with infectious energy and 20 years of turntable technique, spinning up reggae beats accompanied by a performance from Hawaiian lyricist and composer Kaipo Kapua, renowned for his work with Hawaiian superstars like Kimié and Kapena. The celebration will come to an end with a grand finale featuring a traditional fire knife & Tahitian dance performance by local Las Vegas Polynesian dance company Tevakanui.
Throughout the evening, guests can savor the bold flavors of Eat Your Heart Out food hall’s destination for Hawaii Street Food with a live pig roast hosted by Chef Gene Villiatora, Head Chef and owner of Ai Pono Cafe, serving specialty dishes including a roast pork bowl with Ai Pono Jufran Guava Barbecue Sauce, priced at $15; Da “Puerto Rican Cowboy,” a delectable savory combo of Pulehu steak and Patele stew, priced at $18; and Da “Fat Kanak,” a veritable feast for the eyes and stomach brimming with Kalua pork, Lomi salmon, mac salad, squid luau, chicken long rice, haupia and rice, priced at $25. All of these savory items will pair excellently with the limited-time Spiked Punch, a tropical and citrusy cocktail made with Mt. Gay Rum, Cointreau, lemon juice, orgeat and sugar-free watermelon Red Bull, priced at $15.
