UNLV STUDENT-ATHLETES CONTINUE TO EXCEL ACADEMICALLY
Athletics Department turns in record 14th-straight semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher and has second-highest cumulative GPA in its history following the Spring 2024 semester
UNLV student-athletes continue to excel academically as they have achieved a record 14th-straight semester with a 3.0 grade point average or higher, the Athletics Department announced Wednesday.
In addition, the department’s cumulative GPA following the Spring 2024 semester is 3.31, which is the second-highest in school history, and the collective semester GPA for the spring was 3.23, which is the third-highest.
“I’m so incredibly proud of our student-athletes for their continued commitment to academic excellence,” said UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield. “The consistent and cumulative success shown across all of our athletics programs is indicative of a culture within the department that emphasizes both academic and athletic achievement. I commend our student-athletes, coaches, and staff for continuing to set the bar high.”
Sports that set program records for cumulative GPA following the Spring 2024 semester include football (3.12), men’s swimming & diving (3.28), and softball (3.49).
“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes’ continued accomplishments and success in the classroom,” said UNLV Director of Athletics Erick Harper. “It is extremely rewarding to see the collective hard work continue to pay off with these academic achievements. We appreciate the efforts of our Student-Athlete Academic Services Department, and our coaches and staff, for their high standards and commitment to our student-athletes’ success in both competition and in academics.”
168 UNLV student-athletes earned Dean’s Honor List recognition for Spring 2024. Students must have a 3.5 GPA or higher to be on the Dean’s Honor List.
Other academic highlights for the department include:
- 2% of UNLV student-athletes had a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher for Spring 2024 and 75.5% had a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Women’s tennis led the way in both semester (3.60) and cumulative (3.68) GPA subsequent to Spring 2024.
- The UNLV student-athlete graduation success rate set a record for the third straight year (88%).
- Six sports tied program records for single-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) with scores of 1000 (women’s basketball, men’s golf,women’s golf, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s tennis).
- Men’s tennis tied its program record for multi-year APR score of 1000.
- 80 UNLV student-athletes took part in Spring Commencement, including a program-record 24 from football.
