5th Annual Nevada Walk & 5K for Hemophilia is September 21

Community Invited to Support Those Affected by Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Come join the Las Vegas community as they take a step to raise critical funds and awareness for those suffering from bleeding disorders in Nevada.

The Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF Nevada) is hosting their fifth annual Nevada Walk for Hemophilia, helping people suffering from bleeding and clotting disorders in the local community.  The one mile walk and 5K will take place at Floyd Lamb Park, Saturday, September 21, 2013.  Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. and the Walk begins at 8:30 a.m.  Floyd Lamb Park is located at 9200 Tule Springs Rd. near Durango and Racel St.

“We are so excited about this year’s event and couldn’t ask for a more beautiful place to walk than Floyd Lamb Park,” said Kelli Walters, Executive Director of the Nevada Chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation. “Here in Southern Nevada, we are committed to helping every person in the state improve the quality of care and life for people with hemophilia, von Willebrand disease and clotting disorders and we need the community’s support to continue to do so.”

NHF Nevada is a nonprofit consumer advocacy and service organization founded in 1990 that helps meet the vast education and support needs of the bleeding disorders community in Nevada.  They also provide a camp for kids specifically designed for youth with bleeding disorders.  In addition, NHF Nevada provides services to those affected by von Willebrand disease, which also prevents blood from clotting, and clotting disorders such as thrombophilia which causes the blood to clot excessively.

Currently there are 20,000 people living with hemophilia in the United States.  It’s an expensive disease where life-long management of hemophilia places a large financial burden on individuals and families. Every dollar raised at this event will help support the bleeding disorder community in Nevada.
