Annual Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival Returns
for Nine Days of Community STEM Exploration April 25-May 3
The Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival is returning for its 14th year April 25-May 3, offering dozens of FREE activities and a Giant Science & Technology Expo at the EXPO at World Market Center, designed to inspire young minds and ignite their interests in STEM career fields. Registration for all events, including the Expo, opens Tuesday, April 1 at 7 a.m. at http://www.scifest.vegas/events.
“Registration day is the key date to mark on your calendar,” said Sarah Elliott, Director of Las Vegas Science & Technology Festival. “Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding more events to our lineup as final arrangements come together, but our most popular activities tend to fill up quickly so we strongly recommend families browse the event calendar now and have a list ready in advance.”
All events are free but advance registration is required as space is limited and based on availability. For the full event lineup visit http://www.scifest.vegas, but here are some highlights of what guests can expect at this year’s festival:
- Friday, April 25 (Kick-Off): Ologist Night at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, meet real scientists and learn about their career fields
- Saturday, April 26 (Outdoor Explorers Day): Garden & Sustainability event at Nevada State College (AM), BioBlast at Clark County Wetlands Park (AM), Junior Paleontologist Tour at Ice Age Fossil State Park (AM), Science events at select Las Vegas Libraries (AM & PM), Neon Museum Family Fest (PM)
- Sunday, April 27 (Science is Everywhere Day): Numerous special tours, demos and workshops at various organizations throughout the valley. Events include behind-the-scenes tours of Shark Reef and the Bellagio Fountains; Code Like A Pro at Code Central; The Mine Experience at the McCaw School of Mines; Republic Services Recycling Center Tours (various times); Robots Saving Lives at Southern Hills Hospital and more,
- Monday, April 28 (STEM Exploration Day): UNLV Young Rebels event (all day), Women in Science panel at Windmill Library (evening), STEM Movie Night at Galaxy Theaters
- Tuesday, April 29: eSports Panel at Southwest Career and Technical Academy, additional Republic Services Tours (evening times), STEM Movie Night at Galaxy Theaters
- Wednesday, April 30: Energy Smart Theater and Panel with NV Energy at Windmill Library (evening)
- Thursday, May 1: May the Science Be with You, DRI and the National Atomic Testing Museum welcome the community to explore science through the lens of Star Wars (evening)
- Friday, May 2: Night at the CSN Planetarium, free planetarium shows and a fun-filled night of space science and STEM activities
