AMERICAN CONEY ISLAND SELLS 1,108 CONEY DOGS DURING
‘NICKEL DAY’ EVENT AT THE D LAS VEGAS
Iconic restaurant celebrated 102nd anniversary with original 1917 prices
On Thursday, May 9, hundreds of customers gathered at American Coney Island (ACI) at the D Las Vegas to celebrate the American staple’s 102nd birthday for “Nickel Day.” Offering five cent Coney Dogs – the original price when the restaurant opened in 1917 – the commemorative event sold an impressive 1,108 Coney Dogs from 11 a.m. – noon.
To add to the excitement, guests were greeted by co-owners and siblings Chris Sotiropoulos and Grace Keros, the D CEO Derek Stevens and ACI mascot Coney D. Family-operated since day one, American Coney Island was opened in Detroit, Michigan by Constantine “Gust” Keros, grandfather of Keros and Sotiropoulos.
American Coney Island has continued its tasty practices in Las Vegas by serving world-famous Coney Dogs at the D Las Vegas for seven years, its only location outside of Michigan. The beloved dish grew in popularity from the specially-seasoned, natural skin casing hot dog from Dearborn Sausage and its secret family “Coney Island Chili Sauce” recipe, which comes topped with mustard and chopped sweet onions.
