The UNLV women’s golf program has received a signed commitment from University of Hawaii transfer Mayumi Umezu to join the team in the fall, head coach Amy Bush-Herzer announced Friday.

“Mayumi is an outstanding addition to our program,” said Bush-Herzer. “She’s an excellent student and an incredibly hard worker with an extensive playing background. We can’t wait to have her leadership and guidance on our team.”

Originally from Waimea, Hawaii, Umezu recently completed her second season with the Rainbow Wahine. An All-Big West selection, she ranked second on the team last year with a 74.30 scoring average and had a team-best 72.90 scoring average in the fall.

As a sophomore, Umezu turned in team-low scores for a single round (67) and tournament (212) along with two top-5 finishes, including a fourth-place showing at the Big West Championship. During her freshman year, she also finished in the top 5 in two events, while earning Academic All-Big West and WGCA All-American Scholar Team honors.

Prior to her collegiate career, Umezu attended Club Med Academies in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and competed on the state’s junior circuit. She was a medalist at the Florida Junior Tour and South Florida PGA Junior Tour in 2021 as well as runner-up at the Florida State Girls Junior Amateur in 2019.
