“A Celebration of the King’s Life” Brings Elvis’ Music, Friends & Co-Stars to the Cannery Casino January 6-7

The Cannery Row Buffet to Feature Elvis’ Favorite Foods!

Close friends and co-stars of Elvis Presley will join together as part of the crowd favorite “A Celebration of the King’s Life”, honoring Elvis’ music and legacy at the Cannery Casino on Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7,  2012.  

The commemoration is timed to coincide with Elvis’ birthday weekend (January 8 ) and will feature a performance by top Elvis tribute artist Johnny Fortuno as well as The Stamps Quartet. In addition, special guests include co-stars of Elvis, Darlene Tompkins and Cynthia Pepper. Other guests include Sonny West, Elvis’ personal friend and bodyguard, Steve Christopher who hosts “Elvis On Air” and a special guest appearance by Sammy Shore.

The Cannery Row Buffet will also honor Elvis with the “Food That Fed The King” special buffet featuring many of Elvis’ favorites including Deep Fried Pickles, Southern Fried Chicken, Smothered Pork Chops, Collard Greens, Green Bean Casserole, Ham Hocks and Potato & Cheese soup.

Johnny Fortuno’s powerful stage presence is a testament to the energy displayed by Elvis during his most popular years.  Fortuno, praised by celebrities and critics alike as one of the top Elvis tribute artists, will perform many of Elvis’ hits including “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Suspicious Minds” and “In the Ghetto.”

The Stamps Quartet is a Gospel group that performed on a regular basis with Elvis Presley on many recordings. The group also performed in concert with Elvis as backup vocalists between 1971 to 1977. Elvis called The Stamps Quartet his favorite group of Gospel singers.

Darlene Tompkins and Cynthia Pepper worked alongside Elvis during his movie-making years. Tompkins co-starred with Elvis in Blue Hawaii.  Pepper co-starred with Elvis in Kissin’ Cousins. Tompkins and Pepper will speak to fans about their memories of Elvis and what it was like to work alongside him.

Sonny West traveled the world with Elvis.  He met the singer in 1958 and the two became friends and eventually Sonny became one of Elvis’ bodyguards.

Steve Christopher is host of “Elvis On Air” a radio program that combines a broad range of Elvis’ music, interviews, news and trivia.  Christopher will broadcast “Elvis On Air” on KOOL radio (102.3FM/1280 AM) on Friday, January 6, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., prior to “A Celebration of The King’s Life.”

A Celebration of The King’s Life featuring Johnny Fortuno begins at 8 p.m. at The Club inside the Cannery Casino. Tickets are $10 at the door.
