CELEBRATE EARTH DAY WITH VARIETY OF FESTIVITIES AT DOWNTOWN SUMMERLIN®
Events take place Friday and Saturday, April 22-23, with activations throughout the month
Celebrate Earth Day all month long at Downtown Summerlin®. Festivities include the Pollinator Garden, signature Tour de Summerlin and Half Marathon events, Student Farmers Market and Happy Earth Day Festival.
On Friday, April 22 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Green our Planet and the Clark County School District hosts the second annual Student Farmers Market at Downton Summerlin. Billed as the largest student market in the U.S., the free event will feature approximately 600 students from 60 schools throughout Southern Nevada. Students will run the market, selling fruits and vegetables that are grown in school gardens along with handmade crafts. Green Our Planet provides schools the opportunity to have gardens that support STEM learning in an exciting way. The Student Farmers Market also allows students to learn about finances and business skills in preparation for the real world.
New this year! Happy Earth Day Festival takes over The Lawn at Downtown Summerlin on Friday and Saturday, April 22 – 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Festivities include a variety of children’s activations and events such as a youth obstacle course, a rock-climbing wall, DIY arts and crafts, face painting, vegan food for purchase, a beer garden for guests 21+, oversized lawn games, a sustainable marketplace, and a plant swap in partnership with Carrie Lynn’s Plant Shop. Guests will learn about upcycle fashions courtesy of local stylists from Madewell. Bring three fashion-forward clothing items to benefit the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center to trade for two items to refresh your spring wardrobe. Southern Nevada’s longest running cycling event, Tour de Summerlin, now in its 19th year takes place on Saturday, April 23. The 80-mile course kicks off at 7 a.m.; the 40-mile course at 8:15 a.m. and the 20-mile course at 9:15 a.m. The event starts and ends at Downtown Summerlin and takes bikers through the community’s scenic streets and nearby Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area. Registration fee is $100 per person. The event benefits Breakaway Cycling, a nonprofit to promote cycling and bike safety to children throughout Southern Nevada. The Summerlin Half Marathon, now in its 11th year, kicks off at 7:15 a.m. The 13.1-mile course includes a scenic tour of several Summerlin villages on the community’s nationally recognized trail system. Throughout the month of April, make sure to stop by the Pollinator Garden at Downtown Summerlin located under the covered Pavilion. West Deck will donate and plant flowers and plants that support bees, butterflies, and ladybugs. Green Our Planet will supply milkweed to support the migration of the Monarch butterfly. Downtown Summerlin and The Howard Hughes Corporation will provide over 300 painted lady caterpillars to pupate and release as butterflies throughout the month along with 200+ ladybugs for additional pollination.
In honor of Arbor Day, The Howard Hughes Corporation donated $10,000 to The Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE to support the city’s mission to provide natural cooling by planting thousands of trees in areas around the valley where the urban heat island effect is greatest.
