30th Annual Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department K-9 Trials hosted by LVMPD Foundation

WHAT: Southern Nevada residents are invited to attend the 30th Annual Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department K-9 Trials hosted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Foundation and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) K-9 Section.
Teams from all over the country will join the LVMPD K-9 Section in competitions for Narcotics, Bombs, Area Search, Building Search, Obedience, Agility, and Handler Protection. German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, Belgian Malinois’, Labradors, and English Springer Spaniels will compete in the seven categories. Teams include police K-9 units and hotel security teams and are judged on different facets of their performance including handler’s tactics. The three top finishers will receive Tough Dog, Top Dog, and Top Agency awards. Half-time will feature a demonstration by SWAT.
Lt. Jeff Clark, LVMPD K-9 Section, will serve as show emcee along with Beth Fisher, former news anchor who handles Community Relations for the LVMPD Public Information Office.
According to Lt. Clark, LVMPD has one of the oldest, continuously operating K-9 units in the United States celebrating its 57th year. The LVMPD K-9 Section comprises of 14 officers, three sergeants, and one lieutenant along with 17 patrol dogs, five narcotic detector dogs, and five explosive dogs. Five patrol dogs are certified as human remain detectors.
According to Tom Kovach, executive director, LVMPD Foundation, LVMPD Foundation is producing the event to support and supplement Metro area commands, special units like the K-9 Section, equipment and technology, crime prevention events, and hundreds of positive community-police engagement activities, programs and initiatives that help make Las Vegas safe for all.
