MORALES EARNS MW SOFTBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONOR
UNLV outfielder led Rebels with nine hits last weekend
UNLV outfielder Sofia Morales was voted the Mountain West Conference Softball Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Morales led the Rebels with nine hits in 17 at-bats (.529 average) through five games last weekend at UNLV’s Boyd Gaming Classic.
The freshman hit 2-for-3 with one walk against Washington ace Gabbie Plain, the reigning Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year and USA Softball Player of the Year finalist.
Defensively, Morales preserved Jenny Bressler’s complete-game shutout bid against Houston on Sunday with an over-the-wall catch to rob a seventh-inning home run.
Morales was 4-for-4 at the plate with a walk, three runs scored and one RBI in Saturday’s 13-5 run-rule of New Mexico State.
The Rebels visit Tucson, Arizona, this weekend for the Bear Down Fiesta. UNLV faces Marist on Friday, March 11, before playing Yale and tournament host Arizona on Saturday. The Rebels finish Sunday with a rematch of Yale.
