UNLV men’s golf places 11th as a team at BYU Cougar Classic

UNLV senior Jack Trent shot a final-round 2-under-par 70 on Saturday at the BYU Cougar Classic, which was played at Riverside Country Club (par 72, 7,142 yards), to record his second top-five individual finish of the season.

 

Trent finished the 54-hole tournament at 9-under 207, four shots back of individual co-medalists Carson Lundell from BYU and Tim Widing from San Francisco (13-under 203). Trent’s top finish of the season was a tie for third at the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder City, Nevada, in March.

 

San Francisco shot a final-round-low 21-under 267 to win the team title by 13 shots at 41-under 823. Boise State finished second at 28-under, followed by BYU in third at 26-under. New Mexico was fourth at 21-under, while Colorado State rounded out the top five at 19-under. UNLV finished 11th at 4-under 860. The Rebels shot a final-round 11-under 277. There were a total of 20 teams competing.

 

UNLV senior J.J. Gresco was the low Rebel on Saturday as he shot a bogey-free final round with five birdies (5-under 67). He tied for 60th at 4-over. Sophomore George Leigh also tied for 60th, while fifth-year Justin Kim tied for 68th at 5-over and junior David Rauch tied for 73rd at 6-over. Rauch was 4-under on Saturday (eight birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey).

 

There were a total of 104 golfers competing.

 

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV’s next action will be at the Mountain West Championship, scheduled for Friday-Sunday, April 30-May 2 in Tucson, Arizona.
