LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV swimming and diving head coach Ben Loorz was named the 2021 Mountain West Swimming Coach of the Year, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is the first career MW award for Loorz, who also becomes the program’s first to bring home annual coaching honors on both the women’s and men’s sides since legendary coach Jim Reitz in 2005.
During his fifth season, Loorz led the Rebel women’s program to its first MW title in 16 years and second overall in school history. The conference trophy followed a record outing for the Scarlet and Gray at the annual MW meet in which a program-best 15 individuals garnered Mountain West All-Conference recognition with their top-8 finishes.
Additionally, the list of UNLV’s individual accolades under Loorz’s guidance extended to the Mountain West Freshman of the Meet award received by Ruby Howell, who led all freshmen with 75 points at the four-day MW event.
