UNLV women’s soccer freshman forward Nailah Harpring was named the Mountain West Offensive Player Of The Week, the league office announced Tuesday. It is Harpring’s first career honor and comes a week after UNLV redshirt junior Troi Hollimon earned the league’s first defensive player of the week award of the season.
Harpring, a Broomfield, Colorado, native, turned in an outstanding performance in Northern California last weekend, scoring four of the Rebels’ five goals in two matches and assisting on the fifth. The freshman collected just the sixth hat trick in program history – the first ever by a freshman – in a 3-0 win at San Jose State Sunday. It was also the first hat trick by a UNLV player since former Rebel All-American Lily Sender scored three goals at UNR in 2016.
In a 3-2 loss at Fresno State Friday, Harpring tied the game at one in the 22nd minute with her first career goal as a Rebel. Later in the second half with the Rebels attempting to rally from a 3-1 deficit, Harpring’s perfect corner kick found the head of sophomore Marcell Brooks, who pushed it past the keeper to pull UNLV within one in the 82nd minute. It was Harpring’s first career assist.
Harpring is the first UNLV player to receive the offensive weekly award since former Rebel Caitlyn Kurtz earned the honor on September 10, 2018.
