THREE COMMIT TO JOIN UNLV MEN’S GOLF PROGRAM
Aaron Jarvis, Tommy Kimmel and Jason Pittman will become Rebels starting in 2021-22
The UNLV men’s golf program has received signed commitments from Aaron Jarvis, Tommy Kimmel and Jason Pittman to join the Rebel golf program, head coach Dwaine Knight announced Tuesday.
“We are very excited about this new recruiting class,” Knight said. “Aaron, Tommy and Jason are all exceptional people who can play at the highest level. These three will strengthen our team and get us on track to contend for a national championship, while earning their degrees at UNLV.”
Jarvis, originally from George Town, Cayman Islands, will come to Las Vegas by way of Windermere Prep in Florida. He competed in the World Amateur Team Championships, played in the Latin America Amateur Championships in Ireland and placed third in the Men’s Caribbean Amateur, helping the Cayman Islands win the team trophy. In addition to golf, Jarvis also played for the Cayman National Soccer Team.
“Aaron has continuously improved at every level during his golf career,” said UNLV assistant men’s golf coach AJ McInerney. “He has the strength and power to play at the highest level. He compliments those characteristics with a contagious work ethic which makes him an exciting addition to our program.”
Kimmel, from Spokane, Washington, attends Gonzaga Prep. He has been ranked as high as 55th in the country by Junior Golf Scoreboard and ranks as the 25th-best player in the class of 2021. He competed at the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur and IMG Junior World Championship, and he was runner-up at the PNGA Amateur. He holds the Greater Spokane League scoring record, breaking his own mark with a 63 at Palouse Ridge Golf Club, which was home to the NCAA Regionals in 2019.
“Tommy’s path to UNLV is an exciting one,” McInerney said. “You will be hard-pressed to find someone who wants to be a Rebel more than this young man. He brings a lot to the table both on and off the course and we are thrilled to welcome him to Las Vegas.”
Pittman, from Monahans, Texas, graduated from Monahans High School and currently attends Midland (Texas) College. He lettered in three sports while in high school, which included football (quarterback), basketball (shooting guard), and golf. He won the individual championship in his district as a freshman and then again as a junior, while he placed third at the regionals as a freshman and senior. He led his team to the district and regional golf titles all four years of high school and the state championship as a junior and senior. He won the 2020 Houston Baptist University Colin Montgomerie Invitational as a freshman at Midland and won the West Texas Amateur earlier this year.
“JT comes from a great family out in West Texas and will look to follow the path of former Rebel All-American Chad Campbell as he makes his way to Las Vegas,”
McInerney said. “He brings a lot of experience which will help him reach his goals both athletically and academically at UNLV.”
The trio will all join the Rebel program in fall 2021.
