Southern Nevada Illuminates Hope in Fight Against Cancer for American Cancer Society
Relay For Life of Southern Nevada volunteers invite locals to help “Illuminate Hope” with paper Luminaria lanterns on Saturday, August 1. There will be a drive thru luminaria display at the College of Southern Nevada Charleston campus lit with decorated Luminaria bags to remember and honor those who have been affected by cancer.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Relay For Life of Southern Nevada continues the fight against cancer by urging local community members to come together. The goal of the “Illuminate Hope” event is to raise funds for the American Cancer Society (ACS). The ACS is the largest private, nonprofit funder of cancer research, second only to the federal government. COVID-19 has resulted in the cancellation of events across the nation, and for the first time since its inception in 1946, it is predicted that there will be a $200 million deficit in the fight against cancer.
To help spread hope and shine a light on a brighter, cancer-free future, the CSN Charleston Campus will be illuminated with Luminaria bags on Saturday, August 1 beginning at 8:00PM for all to see. Luminaria bags can be purchased for a suggested donation of $10 and then decorated to honor loved ones who have been affected by or have passed from cancer.
Bags can be purchased online at www.relayforlife.org/snv to be displayed in the Illuminate Hope commemoration. Bags can also be decorated by Relay For Life volunteers by special request. Bags must be returned or purchased by Wednesday, July 29 to be included.
