New York-New York to Host Qualifier on April 28
for Annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest

Male and Female Winners Advance to Coney Island July 4

WHAT:  For the 15th straight year, the region’s finest competitive eaters will converge upon New York-New York Hotel & Casino for a chance to qualify for the highly anticipated 97th Annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest inConey Island,N.Y.

The male and female winners of the 3 p.m. main event on Saturday, April 28 will be crowned “Nevada Hot Dog Eating Champions” and will earn the right to represent Las Vegas in the July 4th finals.  A special employee contest along with a “Heroes” competition for charity will begin at 1 p.m.

In addition to Las Vegas, which is hosting the second Nathan’s Famous qualifier in 2012, regional qualifying competitions will also take place in several cities around theU.S. andCanada.

According to archives, the Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest has occurred every July 4th in Coney Island since 1916, the year Nathan Handwerker opened the legendary restaurant.

1:00 p.m. –      Employee Contest

2:30 p.m. – Heroes Contest (Nellis AFB, Metro and Clark County Fire)

3:00 p.m. – MAIN EVENT

ADMISSION:  Free and open to the public
