The Incredibles Take Over Las Vegas-Clark County Libraries To Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month

And stop by your neighborhood branch & register to win a Limited Edition #GetCarded Library Tote Bag

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District has joined forces with Disney Pixar’s superhero family, “The Incredibles,” to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month in September. Valley residents are encouraged to #GetCarded and unlock all of the superpowers that a library card possesses, including free access to millions of library resources, both online at LVCCLD.org and in any library branch.

During September, the public is invited to stop by their neighborhood branch to get their new library card and enter to win a limited edition #GetCarded Library Tote Bag. Simply fill out a comment card as to “why their library card is incredible,” and post it on the Incredibles board displays in each branch. Participants of all ages are eligible to win!

Those who would prefer to enter online can follow @LVCCLD on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and tell us why their library card is incredible using the hashtag #GetCarded.

To add to the excitement, September 16-22 is Superhero Costume Week, where kids, parents, and caregivers are encouraged to dress up during storytimes in their favorite superhero costume, or one of their own design. Every child who attends storytime that week will get a special certificate with their name on it to take home, whether or not they dress-up.

“Our fall season is filled with annual programs that offer something fascinating for everyone, and our Library Card Sign-Up event is the key that unlocks it all,” said Dr. Ronald Heezen, executive director of the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. “Through our doors and on our website, our customers find a wonderful world of learning, discovery, friendship, and cultural events that are all free and open to everyone.”

“This September, we’re celebrating library card sign-ups with the help of some superhero friends,” said Dr. Heezen. “Just like The Incredibles, we hope that people will bring their family to the library, explore the superpowers of a library card, and #GetCarded!”

In addition to books, eBooks, audiobooks, comics, magazines, newspapers, downloadable and streamable movies, music, and TV shows, a library card gives cardholders access to limitless learning resources and career and business development tools such as:

  • Nevada Career Explorer helps users find their dream job in a few clicks. The new online career and planning tool allows you to explore more than 900 careers, acquire countless educational and certification opportunities and learn more through career self-assessment tests. It’s not easy working a job you don’t like, but with Nevada Career Explorer, it’s easy to find one that you love and is suited to your talents and interests.
  • Online Learning Resources are available to all library patrons looking to adopt a new skill, knowledge set, or language through programs and services, including Lynda.com, Gale Courses, Rosetta Stone, and Muzzy.

A library card is available free of charge, providing access to thousands of materials at local library branches, as well as millions of items found through the Library District’s website. For additional information about how to #GetCarded, visit http://www.lvccld.org.
