The UNLV men’s basketball team (19-12) will open Mountain West Tournament play on Wednesday, March 7 at 11 a.m. in the first round against Air Force (12-18) at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Runnin’ Rebels are the No. 8 seed, while the Falcons are the No. 9 seed.
Tickets may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office.
This will mark UNLV’s third meeting with Air Force this season. The Runnin’ Rebels swept the regular-season series with an 81-76 win in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Jan. 10, and an 81-73 victory in Las Vegas on Feb. 14. UNLV won its last MW Tournament meeting with Air Force, 108-102, in triple overtime in 2016.
Mountain West Freshman of the Year Brandon McCoy leads UNLV in scoring (16.9 ppg), rebounding (10.2 rpg) and blocks (1.7), while senior Jordan Johnson is the team’s and conference’s assist leader (5.9 apg). UNLV lost five straight games to end the regular season.
Prior to their losing streak, the Runnin’ Rebels had won three straight games and five of their previous six, including a victory at then-No. 23 UNR. The three-game win streak marked the first in Mountain West play for the Runnin’ Rebels since 2016 and the stretch of five wins in six games was its first in conference play since 2014.
Wednesday morning’s game will be shown on Facebook with Ari Wolfe, Doug Gottlieb and Kristen Balboni (sideline) calling the action. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
