UNLV LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK WITH SEASON SWEEP…
The Lady Rebels will be playing a second straight road game Wednesday night and are hoping to bounce back from Saturday’s loss by completing a season sweep of Air Force when they face the Falcons in Colorado Springs in a 6 pm (PT) contest in Clune Arena.
The game will be live streamed on the Mountain West and there will also be a radio broadcast with the call of Wyatt Tomchek, with both available through UNLVRebels.com.
UNLV saw its four-game win streak snapped in its last game, a 69-56 setback at Wyoming as the Cowgirls connected on 12 of its first 15 shots from three-point range. That loss dropped the Lady Rebels down into a tie for first place with the Cowgirls, as both team are 9-3 in league play, while Colorado State is right behind the pair at 10-4.
The good news for UNLV is that its facing an Air Force squad that last in the conference in three-pointers per game at 3.8. In the Lady Rebels’ three conference losses this season, their opponents had connected on 12, 12 and 14 three-pointers. In the first meeting this year, UNLV held a 38-14 edge on points in the paint and shot 54.5% from the floor on the way to a 69-57 victory. UNLV has won 11 straight in the series, with the last loss on Jan. 12, 2013 in Clune Arena.
The Lady Rebels’ success in the conference this season has been fueled by its outstanding post play. UNLV has outscored its past 10 opponents 346-188 on points in the paint while holding a +8.5 rebound margin for the 10 contests. That size shows up even more on the offensive boards, where UNLV is rebounding an impressive 39.8% of its missed shots in MW play. The Lady Rebels are also finding their way to the free throw line, and are currently tied for 20th in the nation with 372 made free throws this season.
