The UNLV men’s basketball team (13-5, 2-3 MW) will travel to Fort Collins, Colorado, to face Colorado State (10-10, 3-4 MW) on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT at Moby Arena.
The Runnin’ Rebels are 2-0 on the road in Mountain West play and are looking for their fourth straight road victory overall. Off a bye last weekend, UNLV lost Wednesday night at home to New Mexico (85-81). Prior to that, the Runnin’ Rebels won their third straight on the road, 81-76, at Air Force (Jan. 10), recording their first win in Colorado Springs since 2014.
UNLV went 11-2 during non-conference play this season with their only two losses coming in overtime – at Northern Iowa and vs. Arizona (now ranked No. 14/17) at home.
The Runnin’ Rebels are sixth in the country in field-goal percentage (51.3), eighth in scoring (87.8 ppg), 15th in rebounding (40.94 rpg) and 15th in assists (17.9 apg). Individually, junior forward Shakur Juiston and freshman forward Brandon McCoy rank in the top 21 in the country in rebounding. Juiston is 17th with 10.1 rpg, while McCoy is 21st with 9.7 rpg. UNLV is the only team in the nation with two top-21 rebounders. McCoy ranks 10th in double-doubles with 10, while Juiston is 29th with eight. Senior guard Jordan Johnson is 15th in the nation in assists with 6.3 apg.
The 2017-18 season marks the second under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. Menzies and his staff brought in a recruiting class for this year that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and features McCoy, who was a McDonald’s High School All-American, and Juiston, last year’s National Junior College Player of the Year. The Runnin’ Rebels also returned their leading scorer from last season – senior guard Jovan Mooring. Four Runnin’ Rebels are averaging double figures, led by McCoy’s 18.1 ppg, which ranks fourth in the Mountain West.
Saturday’s game will be televised by CBS Sports Network with Rich Waltz and Bob Wenzel calling the action. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
