The UNLV men’s basketball team (11-3, 0-1 MW) will travel to San José, California, for its first Mountain West road game of the season vs. San José State (3-10, 0-2 MW) on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m.

The Runnin’ Rebels lost their league opener at home against Boise State (83-74) on Saturday, which snapped their five-game win streak. Wednesday’s game will be just the third true road game of the season for UNLV, which is 1-1 in such games (loss in overtime at Northern Iowa, win at Pacific).

The Runnin’ Rebels went 11-2 during non-conference play this season with their only two losses coming in overtime – at Northern Iowa and vs. Arizona (now ranked No. 14/18) at home.

The Runnin’ Rebels are eighth in the country in scoring (89.9 ppg), eighth in rebounding (42.86 rpg), 10th in 3-point field-goal percentage defense (28.6) and 11th in field-goal percentage (51.4). Individually, freshman forward Brandon McCoy and junior forward Shakur Juiston and rank in the top 12 in the country in rebounding. McCoy is 10th with 10.9 rpg, while Juiston is 12th with 10.7 rpg. UNLV is the only team in the nation with two top-12 rebounders. McCoy ranks fourth in double-doubles with 10, while Juiston is 18th with seven. Senior guard Jordan Johnson is 17th in the nation in assists with 6.5 apg.

The 2017-18 season marks the second under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. Menzies and his staff brought in a recruiting class for this year that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and features McCoy, who was a McDonald’s High School All-American, and Juiston, last year’s National Junior College Player of the Year. The Runnin’ Rebels also returned their leading scorer from last season – senior guard Jovan Mooring. Four Runnin’ Rebels are averaging double figures, led by McCoy’s 18.7 ppg, which ranks second in the Mountain West.

Wednesday’s game will be broadcast by AT&T SportsNet with Drew Goodman and Dave Bollwinkel calling the action. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
