UNLV’s Enrique Adame became the third Rebel in the past four years to earn academic honors as he was named CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Men’s Soccer First Team, the organization of sports information directors (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.
Adame, a sophomore from Las Vegas, took over the starting goalkeeper role nine games into his freshman season, and helped the Rebels to a surprising WAC Tournament championship title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament in 2016. The Rebels reach the second round of the NCAAs with Adame in the goal, which was their furthest appearance since 1987. On the Rebels’ path to the WAC title in 2016, he allowed just one total goal in the semifinals and championship game, and was named to the WAC All-Tournament team as well.
This season, he has started 19 of 20 contests for the Rebels, and helped UNLV to the second-seed in this week’s WAC Tournament. He holds a 1.36 GAA this year, down from 1.54 as a freshman, and has two shutouts along with a .679 save percentage. Adame has collected 55 saves in his 1735 minutes of action this season, and has a pair of shutouts, over Gonzaga and Incarnate Word.
Adame has been on the dean’s list every semester at UNLV, and currently holds a 3.82 GPA while majoring in business. He was also an Academic All-WAC Freshman team member for the 2016-17 season.
Student-athletes must be in at least their second season, hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District teams. District VIII is made up of schools in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Utah.
