UNLV TO HOST SAN JOSE STATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON

Runnin’ Rebels and Spartans will meet at 3 p.m. at Thomas & Mack Center

The UNLV men’s basketball team will be back at home on Saturday, Feb. 11, to host San José State at the Thomas & Mack Center at 3 p.m.

Coaching for Literacy (CFL) and the Runnin’ Rebels are partnering together for the first time in the nationwide Fight for Literacy. Saturday will be the Coaching for Literacy Awareness Game. SJSU will also take part as both coaching staffs will wear green.

Family Fun Packs are also available for this game – four tickets, hot dogs and drinks are only $56 (savings of $40), but must be purchased online by Friday.

Saturday will be the second time UNLV and San José State meet this season. The Spartans won on their home floor, 76-72, on Jan. 28.

UNLV is led in scoring by junior guard Jovan Mooring (11.8 ppg), sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (11.8 ppg), senior forward Tyrell Green (11.6 ppg) and senior forward Christian Jones (10.4 ppg). Jones (6.4 rpg), sophomore guard Kris Clyburn (5.4 rpg) and Green (5.3 rpg) are the team’s leading rebounders, while Mooring (3.8 apg) and Poyser (3.0 apg) lead in assists. Mooring is second in the Mountain West in assists and also second in conference-only games (4.8 apg). Junior forward Dwayne Morgan was leading the team in rebounding (7.3 rpg), but has missed the last 16 games because of injury. It was announced on Jan. 19 that he will miss the rest of the season.

San José State has won three straight games: vs. UNLV, at New Mexico (78-68) and vs. San Diego State (76-71). The Spartans are 4-5 in road games this season. Sophomore forward Brandon Clarke (18.7 ppg) and sophomore forward Ryan Welage (12.7 ppg) lead in scoring, while Clarke also leads in rebounding (8.0 rpg). Junior guard Jalen James is the team’s assist leader (2.7 apg).

There is no TV for Saturday’s game, but it will be available via stream (Campus Insiders/Mountain West Network) with Nate Kreckman and Richie Schueler calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
