RUNNIN’ REBELS TO HOST NO. 3 KANSAS THURSDAY AT 6 PM

Jayhawks are the highest-ranked team to visit Thomas & Mack Center since 2014

After defeating Southern Illinois on Monday night at the Thomas & Mack Center, 68-61, the UNLV men’s basketball team (7-5) will host No. 3 Kansas (10-1) on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m.

The third-ranked Jayhawks are the highest-ranked team to play the Runnin’ Rebels at the Thomas & Mack Center since 2014 when UNLV defeated then-No. 3 Arizona, 71-67.

UNLV has won two of its last three games. Kansas will be the third ranked opponent for UNLV in a span of 12 days (No. 5/4 Duke and No. 22 Oregon were the others).

Fans are invited to come to the Thomas & Mack Center’s new Strip View Pavilion on Thursday, when doors open early at 4 p.m., to beat traffic, come in from the cold and take in some college basketball on the 19 televisions in the facility. Bars and various concession stands will be open as fans get to experience one of the best views in Las Vegas.

Led by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser (14.6 ppg) and senior forward Tyrell Green (14.1 ppg), the Runnin’ Rebels have played their last three games without their two leading rebounders, out with injuries: junior forward Dwayne Morgan (7.3 rpg) and senior forward Christian Jones (6.5 rpg).

KU has won 10 straight games after losing its season opener in overtime to Indiana in Hawaii on Nov. 11. The Jayhawks are led by senior guard Frank Mason III’s 20.3 ppg and are coming off an 89-72 win over Davidson in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday.

Thursday’s game will be televised on CBS Sports Network with Carter Blackburn, Steve Lappas and John Schriffen (sideline) calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
