RUNNIN’ REBELS TO FACE NO. 22 OREGON IN PORTLAND
Saturday’s 8 p.m. game at Moda Center will be televised on ESPN2
After defeating Incarnate Word, 92-64, on Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center, the UNLV men’s basketball team (6-4) will head back out on the road this weekend and travel to Portland, Ore., to face No. 22 Oregon (9-2) on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 8 p.m. at the Moda Center (10,493).
The game, which will be UNLV’s second against a ranked team in a span of a week, is part of the Portland Classic with Oregon’s women’s basketball team playing at 5 p.m.
The Runnin’ Rebels’ win on Wednesday ended a season-high two-game losing streak: at Arizona State on Dec. 3 and vs. No. 5/4 Duke last Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. UNLV won its first road game of the year on Nov. 30 at Southern Utah and has won three of its last five games overall.
Two Runnin’ Rebel players recorded double-doubles against UIW as sophomore guard Kris Clyburn had 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, and senior forward Tyrell Green had 21 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. It marked Green’s second game this season scoring 20 or more points. Three other UNLV players also scored in double figures. The team is led in scoring this season by sophomore guard Jalen Poyser, who is averaging 16.1 points per game.
Oregon has won seven straight games after losing to Georgetown on Nov. 21 in the Maui Invitational. Its only other loss this season was at Baylor, which is currently ranked No. 4 in the country. The Ducks are 2-1 this season on neutral courts and have four players averaging in double figures in scoring led by senior forward Chris Boucher’s 14.1 ppg.
Saturday’s game will be televised by ESPN2 with Roxy Bernstein and Brad Daugherty calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online (link at UNLVRebels.com).
