HOMESTAND CONTINUES WEDNESDAY AGAINST UC RIVERSIDE
Runnin’ Rebels to retire former All-American Eddie Owens’ jersey at halftime
The UNLV men’s basketball team will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Thomas & Mack Center as it hosts UC Riverside at 7 p.m.
The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off a loss in their season opener, 76-68, to South Alabama on Friday. Senior guard Christian Jones led the Runnin’ Rebels with a double-double (20 points, 13 rebounds). He was 10 of 14 from the field. Sophomore guard Jalen Poyser added 17 points, while sophomore guard Kris Clyburn and senior forward Tyrell Green also scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Wednesday’s game will be a very special night at the Thomas & Mack Center as the program will retire the jersey of former All-American and Runnin’ Rebel all-time leading scorer Eddie Owens. The ceremony will take place at halftime.
In addition, the 2016 Mountain West Champion UNLV men’s golf team will be presented with their rings during the game vs. UCR.
The Highlanders are 1-1 so far in 2016-17 after a season-opening loss at Portland (71-55) and a home win over Bristol (81-45) on Sunday. The Runnin’ Rebels have 12 newcomers on their roster this season and return just three players from last year’s 18-15 team. UCR returns eight letterwinners, including three starters off last year’s 14-19 team.
Tickets for Wednesday’s game may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or in person at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office.
Wednesday’s game will have no television coverage, however a live Mountain West Network video stream will be available for free at UNLVRebels.com and also on Twitter with Tony Cordasco and Jevon Banks calling the action. Jon Sandler and Robert Smith will handle the radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM. All internet links along with live stats will be available at UNLVRebels.com.
