GOLDEN NUGGET LAS VEGAS 52 FRIDAYS PERFORMERS
January 6 – John Waite
As a solo artist and as the lead singer of The Babys and Bad English, John Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the ’70s and ’80s. Waite had a talent for power ballads and driving arena rock, occasionally touching on new wave-styled power pop, as well. He had several hits, including “Missing You,” The Babys’ “Isn’t It Time,” and Bad English’s “When I See You Smile.”
January 13 – Blood, Sweat and Tears
Founder Al Kooper conceived Blood, Sweat and Tears as an experiment in expanding the size and scope of the rock band with touches of jazz, blues, classical and folk music. When Kooper was forced out of the band soon after its eclectic debut, “Child Is Father to the Man,” BS&T became increasingly identified as a “jazz-rock” group, although its music was essentially easy-listening rhythm and blues or rock with the addition of brass. Now, featuring American Idol’s Bo Bice on vocals, Blood, Sweat and Tears is better than ever. Reestablishing themselves as one of the greatest touring acts around, this GRAMMY award-winning group will perform their greatest hits including “You Made Me So Very Happy,” “Spinning Wheel” and “Hi-De-Ho.”
January 20 – Micky Dolenz
After selling more than 65 million records worldwide as the star of THE MONKEES TV show, Micky Dolenz has continued to make his mark in other areas of the entertainment business, through his varied career as an actor, director, writer, producer and performer.
January 27 – Felix Cavalier’s Rascals
The Rascals are considered to be the best ‘blue-eyed soul’ group to come out of the 1960s, as well as one of the groups with the most record sales. The Rascals have a string of hits, including the mega hit, “Good Lovin”, which struck number one in February 1966. They followed suit with hits like “I’ve Been Lonely Too Long,” “Groovin’,” “How Can I Be Sure,” “A Girl Like You,” “A Beautiful Morning,” and “People Got to Be Free.” The Rascals disbanded in 1972 and Felix Cavalier’s solo career thrived during this decade.
February 3 – Tommy James and the Shondells
Tommy James and the Shondells hit the music scene in 1959 in Niles, MI. They had two number one singles in the U.S.: “Hanky Panky” and “Crimson and Clover.” The group also charted twelve other Top 40 hits, including “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Mirage,” “Mony Mony,” “Sweet Cherry Wine,” and “Crystal Blue Persuasion.”
February 10 – David Cassidy
Son of actors Evelyn Ward and Jack Cassidy, David Cassidy has had one of the most variety-filled careers in the entertainment industry. He first got his start on the television series Partridge Family, where he portrayed the singing teen heartthrob Keith Partridge. He suddenly found himself making hit singles of his own and garnering Grammy nominations for his efforts; his fan club even became the largest in the history of the music industry.
February 17 – Jefferson Starship
Jefferson Starship is an American rock band formed in the early ’70s by several members of the former psychedelic rock group Jefferson Airplane. Jefferson Starship was among the most successful arena rock bands of the ’70s and early ’80s and an even greater commercial entity than its predecessor. As Jefferson Airplane, the group headlined multiple festivals including the original Woodstock Festival in 1969. In 1996, it was inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Their greatest hits include “Miracles,” “Count on Me,” “Jane,” and “Find Your Way Back.”
