The PENTA Building Group (PENTA), a top commercial contractor based in Las Vegas, recently lent a helping hand to one very tall Southern Nevadan in need.
Ozzie the giraffe is a resident at the Lion Habitat Ranch, an 8.5-acre ranch located in Henderson that also houses about 40 lions. After PENTA learned that Ozzie’s living space was due for a complete overhaul and renovation, the contractor’s charitable arm, PENTA Cares, contacted the Lion Habitat Ranch to offer its services.
PENTA employees, along with volunteers from TAB Contractors, Sunstate Equipment, Nevada Ready Mix and Western Elite, removed the existing concrete masonry unit or CMU wall, dug footings and poured and set the concrete columns as the base of the structure. Apprentices from the Carpenters Union utilized the opportunity to erect the structure as a training exercise. The group set up scaffolding and framing in preparation for placement of the siding of the structure, which was completed in May by the team.
“At PENTA, we are always looking for ways to give back to the community,” said PENTA Area Field Manager, Tony Cornell. “This was a unique opportunity to provide assistance for a rather tall, exotic member of our community, while supporting a beloved attraction and local nonprofit organization here in town.”
Final inspection and county approval took place in early June and Ozzie is currently settled into his new permanent habitat.
