UNLV Athletics had a minimum of 43 student-athletes achieve the Mountain West’s academic accolade for the ninth straight year
UNLV had a total of 49 student-athletes earn the 2015-16 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award, which was announced on Friday by the conference.
The Scarlet & Gray have had at least 43 recipients earn the award in 11 of the past 13 years, including nine straight dating back to the 2007-08 academic year.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in a MW-sponsored sport.
The women’s swimming & diving team and its 11 representatives paced UNLV’s contingent. Both volleyball and women’s track & field were represented by six honorees while softball was close behind with five of its own.
Women’s golf, women’s soccer and men’s tennis provided four apiece. Cross country and women’s tennis added two each while baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, football and men’s golf chipped in one.
Overall, a MW-record 734 student-athletes were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes, including 47 individuals with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
